Privacy

What we collect, why, and the choices you have.

In short

  • Browsing needs no account, and we never see your Steam password or email.
  • We don't sell the information in your account.
  • Ads come from Google. You decide whether they're personalised and can change your mind any time.
  • You can delete your account whenever you like. It's immediate.

Who is responsible

Dota2sphere is run by one independent developer as a personal project, not by a company. That developer (“we”) is responsible for the personal data described here. For questions or requests, write to the address at the bottom of this page.

When you browse

You don't need an account. To deliver the site, keep it secure and stop abuse, we and our hosting provider process technical data such as your IP address, your browser and the pages you open. It's kept only briefly.

We count visits with privacy-friendly analytics that use no cookies and don't identify you.

Ads and cookies

A few essential cookies remember your language and your cookie choice and keep you signed in. The site needs them to work.

We show ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show and measure ads, including ads based on your earlier visits to this and other websites.

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google asks for your consent on our behalf before ads are personalised. Elsewhere, ads are only personalised if you choose “Accept all” in our cookie notice, and we respect Global Privacy Control. Change your choice any time with Cookie settings, here or at the bottom of every page.

You can also manage ad personalisation in Google's Ad Settings and read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

If you sign in

Signing in is optional and happens on Steam's own website. Steam tells us your Steam account ID, nothing more.

We keep your Steam ID, display name and avatar, and what you choose to add: your profile, teams, applications and invites with their messages, badges, notifications and reports. We also record when you accepted our terms and this notice.

Public player and match data

Player and match pages show public Dota 2 information that Steam and public statistics services already publish: names, avatars, ranks and match stats. A player is looked up only when someone opens their page, and we don't keep a copy of anyone's match history.

Rather not be shown? Turn off “Expose Public Match Data” in Dota 2's settings and your page will show only your name. Members can also hide their stats from their account page.

Why we use it

To run the site and your account (needed to provide what you asked for), to keep it secure, prevent abuse and improve it (our legitimate interest), to show ads (with your consent where the law requires it), and to meet legal obligations.

Who we share it with

We don't sell the information in your account. We share data only with providers that run the site for us, such as hosting and database services, with Google for ads as described above, and when the law requires it.

These providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

Account data stays until you delete your account. Read notifications are deleted two weeks after you read them, and you're signed out after 30 days without a visit. Technical logs are kept only briefly, and reports as long as moderation needs them.

Your rights and choices

Delete your account any time from your account page. It's immediate: your profile, badges, applications, notifications and sessions are removed, and teams you own are disbanded.

Depending on where you live, you can also ask to access, correct, export or erase your data, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw your consent at any time. Write to us and we'll reply within a month.

In the EEA or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority. In California and other US states with privacy laws, you can opt out of sharing for personalised ads with Cookie settings or Global Privacy Control. Using your rights never changes how we treat you.

Children

Dota2sphere isn't meant for children under 13, and accounts need the minimum age in our terms. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13; if you think we have, tell us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this notice

If this notice changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date below and ask members to accept it again at their next sign-in.
